When God Uses Chumps

Know what I love? I love tacos.

But besides tacos, I love it when God uses ordinary chumps like the people at True North. And yeah, I know that makes me the chief chump. But I’m cool with it.

I love how when God puts together some really insane, audacious, impossible plan, he never chooses the uber-talented, best-looking, wealthiest and most popular. He uses chumps.

Just look at the Bible. It’s full of stories of God using ordinary people to do extraordinary things. What do Moses, Noah, Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, Jeremiah, Peter, James and John all have in common? I mean, besides that they’re Biblical stud muffins? You guessed it. They’re all chumps. These guys have ISSUES. Like, murdering, lusting, direct rebellion and disobedience issues.

The same issues you and I struggle with every day. But you know what else they have in common? They were surrendered.

They traded in their huge role in a small story to pick up a supporting role in God’s HUGE story. And then God used them to change the world. And it’s still happening.

Sunday at True North, 1062 people heard the Good News. Do I mention the number because that’s all we care about? No way. I mention the number because each of those people is someone Jesus died for and loves intensely. And yesterday, they heard about it.

And it’s all because of a team of ordinary, messed up people who are one at a time, finding their role in God’s story. And it’s the coolest thing ever to watch, and it’s even better to be a part of.

To the many who served ‘thank you’ doesn’t even begin to cover it. You will only know the impact of what you’ve done when we get to the other side.

And to those who are still on the fence – what could you possibly be waiting for? There is NO ride like this one. Trade in your small story. Be a part of something bigger. We’re not the only place to do that, but we’ve got plenty of places for you to plug in.
