Criminally Insane

There have been three great portrayals of the criminally insane in recent film history.

Three.

1.  Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance in The Shining.

2.  Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs.

3.  Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight.

He was absolutely chilling.  A shoe-in for a posthumous best-actor Oscar.

Done and done.

Did I miss anybody?

BBQ Adventures, Part 2

So I’ve not made it back to Hanks, but I drove past this place yesterday and I knew I had to check it out.

Log Cabin Barbecue?   Word.

The building looks like this.

C’mon.  With this kinda look, it’s gotta be awesome!!

They specialized in Pork BBQ.  No brisket to be found.  Sorry Tom.

They had two kinds of pulled pork, one was tomato-based and sweet and the other was the standard vinegar based sauce.  My wife and I each tried a different one and they were both amazing!!

Not as good as Hank’s but still worthy of a post here on the Right Thing.

It’s ridiculous how hard places like Famous Daves have to work to capture this vibe and the food doesn’t even come close.

I need to do a world BBQ tour.

Where’s the best BBQ you ever had?

Greatest BBQ Place Ever!

Ok, so I’m kicking back on a little working mini-vacation with the fam.

My brother and sister-in-law, their squids and my parents are all here at this time share deal somewhere in western Virginia.  Scott and Stacey are awesome.  I don’t know how they found this place, but it’s cool.

So last night we’re all looking for a place to have dinner and wisely steering away from the ApplebeesTGIFriday’sChili’s pablum in favor of something more local and unique.

Enter Hank’s Smokehouse.

I knew we were in for a treat when we found this place, but I had NO IDEA what I was in for.

It was amazing.  My dinner there was a religious experience.  I know God better now.

Check this out:

Yeah. You read that right.  All you can eat BBQ for $13.95.    That’s pulled pork AND brisket.  And it’s the best stuff I’ve ever tasted.

Now all I have to do is figure out a way to convince my family that we have to go back there before we leave here.

Meanwhile, do check this place out online.  And if you’re ever within two hours of here, your time will not have been wasted.  It is the essence of the Right Thing.
