Fully Present at 100mph

blog speedomoeter

Been doing some thinking about the current season of my life, and it sometimes just blows my mind how fast time is passing.

Maybe you’ve had some thoughts lately that go like this:   “Man, I can’t believe ____________ !”      As in,  “I can’t believe True North is 4 1/2 years old already!!”   Or “I can’t believe summer’s almost here!”   Lately, I’ve been having a LOT of those.  I can’t believe how old my kids are getting.  I can’t believe how fast things are moving with the church.  I can’t believe how much amazing stuff I’ve been able to see and do and be a part of in the last few years.

I’ve been waiting lately for a slow-down.  But I’m starting to think it’s never coming.  I’ve been thinking for a while now that as soon as things get more settled with our next location that things would settle down.  Then it was the Exponential Conference last week.   Now it’s the True North Women’s Retreat which has me playing Mr. Mom all weekend with my kids.  Which I love, by the way.  And after that it’s off to Atlanta with our staff for Drive.

Bottom line?  It just never ends.  Ever. As soon as I get back from Atlanta there’ll be something else waiting for me.  Some other crisis or issue or thing will step up and make itself known.   But maybe this time I’ll quit saying “Life will get back to normal when ______ is over,”  and I’ll start saying “Hey. This IS normal.”   Crazy is the new normal.  Now I need to deal with it.

So how do you stay fully present with God when crazy is normal?  Just like you do anything else.  You practice.  Practice staying conscious of His presence.  Practice taking a deep breath once in a while and just enjoying the sunshine.  Practice the act of trusting Him with your tomorrow so that you can focus on today.

Staying fully present at 100mph isn’t always easy, but it’s possible.  And it’s SOOOOOO worth it.

Getting caught up in the stress and craziness?  Well…    that’s just crazy.

I’ve been practicing staying in His presence for many weeks now. Its amazing when we do, everything can still be busy, yet calm all at the same time. Thanks for the reminder.
